From Peabody High School
Peabody High School is proud to announce Coach Tab Vowell as the next head coach of the Golden Tide. Tab and his wife Tracey are the proud parents of three children: Jake (23), Chase (19), and Lauren (13). His outstanding résumé is a testament to his dedication, leadership, and passion for the game.
After graduating South Fulton High School in 1989, Coach Vowell went on to play football and basketball at the University of Tennessee at Martin from 1989 to 1993. It was during his college years that he realized his calling—to coach high school football. More than 30 years later, he remains committed to the sport he loves.
Coach Vowell brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent 10 years as an assistant coach in West Tennessee, including Obion Central High School, JCM, and Liberty Tech. He then served as defensive coordinator at North Side High School for three years before taking over as head coach of the North Side Indians from 2009 to 2015. During his tenure, he led the team to an impressive 62-22 record, captured two region titles, and celebrated two undefeated seasons.
Since 2016, Coach Vowell has proudly called Peabody home, serving as the Golden Tide’s defensive coordinator. His leadership was an integral part of securing three consecutive state championships in 2018, 2019, and 2020, solidifying Peabody’s place as a powerhouse in Tennessee high school football.
Fellow coaches describe him as energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to his players. He has the heart of a child and the resolve of a lion. Colleagues and players agree unanimously that he leads by example, never asking more of his team than he would give. He inspires grit, cultivates character, and invests deeply in the personal and athletic development of every player.
“In all my years of coaching, I can’t say there’s been one defining moment that keeps me going,” says Coach Vowell. “You don’t have to win a state championship for a team to come together. Every team that has come through here is special in its own right.” He adds, “The most rewarding part is watching growth- in the weight room, during practice, and on the field. Even in the tough years, when the players graduate, they look back and still remember the good times and know that being dedicated to the game of football was worth it.”
Excitement is building for what lies ahead in Peabody Football. Peabody High School and Trenton Special School District extend our gratitude to the Trenton community for its unwavering support. We look forward to seeing you this fall at Walter Kilzer Stadium as a new generation of Tide Men make their mark on the gridiron.
Many thanks—and as always, ROLL TIDE!
