Nestled in Jackson, Tennessee, Union University prides itself on offering a dynamic NCAA Division II athletic program. Competing in the competitive Gulf South Conference (GSC), the Union Bulldogs field 11 intercollegiate varsity teams across men’s and women’s sports.

Once a powerhouse in NAIA, Union University won five national titles in women’s basketball (1998, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010) before transitioning to NCAA Division IISince joining the Gulf South Conference in 2012–13, the Lady Bulldogs have captured three conference regular-season titles (2015, 2018, 2022–2023) and eight GSC Tournament titles (2015, 2018, 2020–2023)Union’s success isn’t limited to basketball: during its NAIA years, the university claimed NCCAA national championships in men’s soccer (2003), volleyball (2003), and softball (2001, 2002, 2004, 2013).

Union stands out in the classroom too—most notably, women’s and men’s cross country teams earned the NCAA’s Elite 89 Award for having the highest GPA at the national championships, and the athletic department posts an Academic Success Rate of 86%, among the highest in NCAA DII.

As a consistent contender in the Gulf South Conference—one of Division II’s most competitive leagues—Union University has made strides across nearly all sports, regularly advancing to GSC tournament play in each of its 11 supported teams. Union University Athletics represents a balanced combination of competitive spirit, academic achievement, and Christian values.

As the Bulldogs continue to grow within NCAA Division II, they remain a shining example of excellence in Jackson, Tennessee, and the broader Gulf South Conference.
